7 Must-Haves When Designing Your Own Social/Blog Graphics

I’m all for people trying to design graphics in Canva and kudos to you if you’ve even tried and posted. But many don’t have a clue what to do once you’ve opened up a template and started adding images, elements and fonts - how do you know if it’s “good enough? or professional enough?”

In today’s, post I wanted to share a few must-haves for you to consider before sitting down and whipping up an eye feast for your graphics.

When it comes to designing your blog or social graphics, there are several important factors to keep in mind. These considerations can elevate the visual appeal of your graphic, attract more readers, and create a cohesive brand identity. Here are seven crucial things to remember when designing your blog or social graphics:

1. Consistency is key: Establishing a consistent visual style throughout your blog and social posts is essential. Use the same colour palette, font choices, and graphic elements across all your graphics. This consistency will help create brand recognition and a sense of professionalism and trust.

2. Emphasize readability: While aesthetics play a vital role, readability should always be a priority. Choose fonts that are legible, particularly on smaller screens, and ensure text is clear and easy to understand. Avoid overcrowding the design with too many elements, as this can make it difficult for readers to navigate.

3. Highlight your content: The purpose of your graphics is to attract readers and engage them with your content. Ensure that your graphics effectively convey your message and represent the topics you're writing about. Use visually appealing images that capture attention and pique curiosity.

4. Optimise for different platforms: Your blog graphics may be viewed on various platforms and devices, such as desktops, tablets, and smartphones. Design your graphics to be responsive and adaptable, ensuring they display correctly and attractively on any screen size. Use image optimisation techniques to reduce file sizes without compromising quality.

5. Balance visuals and text: Achieving a harmonious balance between visuals and text is crucial. Avoid overcrowding your graphics with excessive text, providing a balance between brevity and relevancy. Use visual elements such as icons, illustrations, or infographics to convey information when appropriate.

6. Create eye-catching titles and headers: Titles and headings grab attention and entice readers to click and explore further. If you haven’t got a Brand Style Guide try experimenting with different typography styles, font sizes, and colour combinations to make them stand out. Opt for clear and concise titles that provide a glimpse into your content.

7. Utilise branding elements: Incorporate your brand's visual identity into your blog graphics. Add your logo, tagline, or other distinct branding elements that help readers associate the graphics with your brand. Consistently using these elements will reinforce your blog's identity and make it more memorable.
Remember, designing blog graphics is a creative process that requires experimentation and continuous improvement. Regularly evaluate the performance of your graphics and get feedback from your readers to ensure you're creating visuals that effectively communicate your message and enhance the overall user experience.
